We know of 3 events of note in literature and the arts that occurred on October 24:
  • American poet Denise Levertov was born on this day in 1923.
  • On this day in 1887, the poet Gerard Manley Hopkins wrote a letter to Coventry Patmore, complaining that Patmore (and Cardinal Newman) did not know how to write prose. All they did was "think aloud, and think with pen and paper."
  • Sarah Hale, who composed the most popular children's poem of all time, "Mary had a little lamb...," was born on this day in 1788.
